I went today and nothing has started as yet. The Starliner sign has been changed to read "Summer 2007" instead of "Spring 2007."
I did talk to several of the kiddie ride ops. One said that the engineers were checking things out in the area last week. He also said he expected them to start something "any time, probably next week." We also discussed how the train track will have to be moved, otherwise it will go under the Starliner. An engineering and expensive nightmare. Another op said he heard the Wave Runner would be moved to Splash Island, but I don't think there's a reason to. The Starliner isn't quite that big. He also heard that some other kiddie rides from the Boardwalk were going to be moved to the new area. I think he was just speculating this stuff though. I also heard the train operator exclaim to his riders (as it passed the kiddie rides), "And these kiddie rides will soon be moved to make way for the new Starliner rollercoaster." Thought that was funny. |

You've gotta be kidding me. By now I would think at least some of the ground would be teared up. Like, the Boardwalk Bullet at Kemah is supposed to be finished by Spring and it was announced after the Starliner. I hope that work on this starts soon because when they said they would begin work immediatley in November, I was expecting that at least the station and lift hill would be finished.

I dont think it will be finished untill October, Bugsville wille done in July.

Re: Not till October | ||

I think that's exaggerating. It will probably done by June-July. The Starliner is about twice the size of Triple Hurricane. If it took Triple Hurricane about a month and a half to be finished then Starliner will probably be finished in 3 months time. I just hope that announcement in November wasn't a lie.

^^ The word "lie" gets bandied around too much thesedays. Just because something is delayed or someone made an error doesn't make them a liar.

When it's done then it will be done. It will be late like the waterpark, but it will be done.

I'm not suprised, construction will probably start in Feburary at this pace. What the heck is wrong?

Construction | ||
|
Who said they were having a hard time getting a construction crew? They all might have prior commitments. CG shouldn't jump the gun like that until they've got everyone signed and ready to go.
Oh well. It'll happen eventually. Even if we CG fans have to go out there and build it ourselves! |

Re: Construction | ||

I wouldn't go that far! lol. I'm behind CG 100%, but I can't wait this long for construction on this coaster. Maybe they should add some temporary attraction during construction like a Frisbee or a Starshape(the ones created by Zierer). Then the guests would have something new to look forward to while they wait for the Starliner to open. But then again, that temporary atrraction might become permanent in the process.

Re: Construction | ||

Yes, it's a pity. Florida schools get out early (as in the first week of June) so CG may miss out on any marketing muscle it could have had if Starliner would have been up by then.
Then again, it can always just market the waterpark instead. Again. Still, one would think that the park would be trying to get as much of the construction done now before the Spring Break crowds (i.e. - grade schools break -- I'm not suggesting that CG is the new Daytona! for college crowds) arrive in early April. |

Truck | ||
|
Some small news... I drove past the park today and noticed a white pickup truck in the field where the Starliner loading will go. I couldn't see much else, and the truck isn't huge news, but maybe it's the start of something.

A white truck?! Maybe they are finally starting the construction. Keep us posted Greg.

Hey Guys | ||

Hey Guys, lets use this thread now for Starliner Updates since the title is appropriate. JohnnyUpsideDown has a new Starliner Update. The lift Hill is about 40ft high and footers for the turn around are near completion. There's also some TRACK work being done in the station. Work is really flying.

It is really looking great and stuff is going up a bit faster than I expected. It is pretty exciting to see Cypress have construction as well as a ride of this magnitude!

New photos | ||

Added some new photos tonight. The lift hill hasn't changed much since Johnny's update. They seem to be spending most of their time on the turnaround area. They were pouring more supports and putting in the rebar. What I found interesting is that it looks like a couple of the supports will actually be UNDER the Hurricane!
Anyway, check them out by going to cypressgardens.homeip.net/ and clicking the "Starliner construction continues!" link. |
